The Cycling Event Of The Year

The Cycling Event Of The Year

Last night I was delighted to be a guest of BDO at the inaugural black-tie dinner for the cycling industry – the Champions of Cyclesport, to celebrate cycling and to raise funds for action.

Taking place at the prestigious Hurlingham Club with the stunningly regal private members club backdrop, this unique gala is a night not to be missed!

It really was an amazing event, attended by the world’s finest cycling legends including the likes of Katie Archibald MBE, Alex Dowsett, Rochelle Gilmore, Dani Rowe MBE and Sean Yates.

As if getting to dine with cycling celebrity was not enough, we also enjoyed a great Q&A session hosted by Matt Stephens and Rebecca Charlton and a live auction hosted by Matt Barbet with money-cannot-buy dreams for any cycling fan, including Dan Martin’s skinsuit from the Giro, a chance to ride with Rochelle Gilmore and Sean Yates in Majorca, not to mention lots of bikes and bike goodies including a hand built Passoni bike (and a trip to the factory!).

As I had been let loose with the corporate card, we’re now the proud owners of a brand new Aurum Magma frame, a joint venture between Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso (who also signed the frame!) – look out for this becoming a dream build bike!

At my table we were joined by You Tube legend Danny MacAskill and downhill world champion Gee Atherton. Being a bit of an MTBer at heart, I admit to being a little star struck but these guys were great company. We had some great chats about Danny’s love for going out on his e-MTB and Gee’s made in the UK frames and bikes that are sold under the strong Atherton brand whilst sinking a few glass of fizz.

I was also reminded that it was back in 2009 as I was preparing to leave the law to start havebike that Danny first became a You Tube sensation with his Inspired Bicycles video.

And not forgetting the reason we were there, there was an absolutely heart moving talk from Jenny and James Halse who sadly lost their little boy Elijah and there to show us how valuable the work Action Medical Research is. A great night for a great cause with lots of money raised. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!

Best wishes and happy cycling!

Nick
