London cycling’s very own Glastonbury, the annual Prudential RideLondon three-day festival, begins next week. There are many things to see and do and here are our highlights.
The Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle on Saturday 29th July, is one of our favourite day’s of the year. The 8 mile circuit is closed to traffic for the FREE family ride providing a safe and fun opportunity to cycle through central London. You’ll cycle past iconic landmarks like Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Bank of England and over Waterloo Bridge, offering stunning views of London. You don’t even need to own a bike to take part as you can hire a Santander ‘boris-bike’ or one of those new silver and yellow oBikes we’ve see around. Above all, bring all the family and join in… when else to you get the chance to ride through central London traffic free!
Our friends Brompton are holding the Brompton World Championship – 8 laps around St Jame’s Park, past Buckingham Palace and down The Mall. It’s sure to be a good laugh for the riders and spectators alike. Bikes will unfold at 7:15pm on Saturday 29th July.
Also on Saturday is the Prudential RideLondon Classique, one of the biggest women’s one-day race in professional cycling. The race starts at 5pm on the The Mall with Kirsten Wild as defending champion taking on more of the worlds best.
On Sunday 30th July, is the Prudential RideLondon-Surry 100, which sees amateur cyclists taking on the same 100-mile Olympic route as the professionals. Each participant is raising money for charity, so if you are not riding yourself, pop along and show your support. Younger and newer cyclists are not left out either with the new 46 mile sportive which was launched last year.
If you are not sure where to watch, Prudential have compiled this handy guide:
The Event will be televised in the UK and internationally, capturing the festival atmosphere, so if you really can’t make it, tune in and get inspired, and perhaps rather jealous!
Also on the Sunday is the Prudential RideLondon-Surry Classic, the mens professional event with the worlds best battling it out on a variation of the the 2012 Olympic route starting at 1:40pm.
