Cycle Safety Part 1: “Be safe…. be seen” LIGHTS

We love cycling at havebike, we have been cycling for years, we cycled to school on our bikes and now find ourselves commuting to work. Cycling all year round means that we have to be prepared for the darker nights and mornings this time of year.

Back in the 1990s all we had were a set of lights whose batteries died after one use and awful high viz arm bands that we took off as soon as we were out of sight of our mum!

Thankfully, products have come a long way since then so we thought we would show you some of the cool products we are using to keep ourselves visible whilst we are out on the road.

Lights

Budget

If you are looking for a no nonsense set of lights that meet a tight budget, you can’t go wrong with the ETC High Beamer & Tail Bright Twinset. If they’re good enough for our emergency services clients, they are good enough for us. Ok, so they don’t look sexy, but if you’re after function over fashion, these 3 LED lights that use AAA batteries and only cost £15.99, you can’t really go wrong.

If you fancy something a little more ‘de rigeur’, how about a set of Cateye Loop Lights. No tools are required for installation and the batteries will last for an amazing 50 hours use! These uniquely designed lights are cracking value at £19.99, and even better, come free with any havebike Collect & Return Service in November.

Splashing out

In addition to a budget set of lights, we like to fit a more powerful set of lights to our bikes as well. As the prices increase you start to get features such as the USB chargeable lights which pack a brighter punch.

The boss loves the USE Exposure Trace Tracer Pack. These are super compact powerful lights, with 3 brightness modes and eco-friendly USB charging. They are a little on the pricey side at £95.00 but having used these lights for the last 3 years without issue, we think the price is worth paying. Plus, the lights are made in the UK and come with a 2 year warranty.

Want a USB chargeable light that doesn’t break the bank, how about the Lezyne Zecto Light Set? Retailing at £54.99, these extremely popular lights deliver up to 120 lumen and offer 180 degrees of visibility.

Black Friday Offer

Throughout November we have 10% off all lights and high visibility clothing so go to our store and grab a bargain before it’s gone!
